Maybe it’s one level of care, maybe it’s a combination. Either way, we’re building something that works for you. Our team at Carlsbad Beach Recovery can also verify your insurance so you know what to expect financially at each level of care.

Holistic Cannabis Addiction Healing Near the California Coast

There’s something about being near the ocean. The sound of waves, the salt air, the vastness of the water; it all puts things in perspective. At our Carlsbad location, we’ve intentionally built our treatment around this natural setting. When your brain has relied on cannabis to cope, you’ve lost touch with your body’s natural ability to calm itself.

Being near the coast helps you rediscover that. Walking on the beach between sessions, breathing in salt air, feeling sand beneath your feet – these simple acts activate your nervous system’s natural healing responses. Treatment interventions grounded in this environment help you rebuild your relationship with peace itself. Our Madison Street facility is uniquely located so that holistic healing is not just possible; it’s part of your daily experience.

Beach yoga is more than Instagram-worthy; it can transform your addiction recovery. When you practice yoga near the ocean, you’re engaging your body in a way that cannabis addiction has possibly numbed. Through regular yoga practice, you build awareness of physical sensations, learn to breathe through discomfort, and strengthen the mind-body connection that marijuana addiction disrupts.

Beach yoga also grounds you in the present moment, which is where real healing happens. Cravings live in the past (regret) or future (anxiety). Yoga keeps you here, now, feeling the sand, hearing the waves, and moving intentionally. Over time, this practice becomes a tool you can use anywhere to ground yourself.

Beyond yoga, our Carlsbad Beach Recovery facility integrates multiple holistic healing approaches. You might take pottery classes to express what words can’t capture. Physical activity like surfing or pickleball helps your body release stored tension and stress, while meditation and breathwork teach your nervous system to regulate itself. Nutrition counseling and cooking classes address how diet impacts mood and cravings.

These aren’t add-ons or “nice-to-haves.” They’re woven into your treatment plan because addiction affects every part of you, inside and out. This integration means you’re not just stopping cannabis use. You’re rebuilding your entire relationship with wellness, learning what your body genuinely needs to feel good. Call our team at Carlsbad Beach Recovery today at  (442) 500-1336. Let’s talk about what interventions can aid your cannabis addiction recovery path.

Navigating Recovery from Marijuana Addiction

Our understanding of marijuana addiction has transformed significantly over the past decade. What many believed was a harmless substance is now recognized as having the capability to be genuinely addictive. Cannabis use has surged 65.2% between 2015 and 2024, according to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics.

The shift reflects changing attitudes about the drug. As legalization has expanded across states, many people have dismissed cannabis as safer than alcohol or tobacco. But the research disagrees. Recent studies from the CDC show that approximately 3 in 10 people who use cannabis develop cannabis use disorder, and the risk is even steeper for those who start using the substance before age 18. Today, it’s reported that approximately 19.4 million U.S. adults struggle with cannabis use disorder, a jump from 15.3 million just 3 years earlier. Additionally, cannabis today is also far more potent than it was decades ago, which means the risks have intensified. Recent data from the JAMA Network links cannabis addiction to elevated mortality rates, with suicide, overdose, and trauma among the leading causes of death.

Understanding how marijuana addiction has changed over time can help shed light on why you’re struggling now. If you started using years ago, you may not recognize how addictive modern cannabis has become. However, recovery is possible, and treatment can address both the marijuana addiction itself and the underlying mental health disorders that can accompany it. Let’s explore what marijuana addiction treatment looks like at Carlsbad Beach Recovery.

A cannabis addiction isn’t just physical; it’s also deeply psychological. Your brain has learned to depend on marijuana to manage stress, anxiety, boredom, or difficult emotions. Over time, you’ve built habits around when and why you use: specific times of day, certain stressful situations, or feelings that trigger the urge.

These patterns are reinforced every time you use marijuana, and breaking them requires more than willpower alone. Comprehensive marijuana addiction treatment requires understanding why you reach for cannabis in the first place, then learning new ways to cope with those triggers. Therapy can help you identify these patterns and replace them with healthier alternatives that address the source of your feelings.

Many people dealing with cannabis addiction also struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other mental health disorders. Behavioral addictions, such as gambling addictions, also commonly co-occur. Sometimes the addiction came first, and using masked the other issue. Other times, untreated anxiety or depression led you to self-medicate with cannabis.

Either way, you can’t truly heal from addiction without treating both conditions together. At Carlsbad Beach Recovery, we assess your full mental health picture and treat everything at once through intensive dual diagnosis treatment. Addressing only the addiction while ignoring anxiety, for instance, sets you up to relapse, because you’ll still have the underlying need that made you turn to marijuana in the first place.

Your brain has relied on marijuana to handle discomfort for a long time. Without it, stress feels unbearable at first. That’s why cannabis addiction treatment focuses on teaching you new, lasting ways to manage what life throws at you. This might include exercise, meditation, creative expression, social connection, or other activities that naturally calm your nervous system without substances.

These are skills you build over time, practice during therapy, and reinforce in daily life. When you develop real coping skills, you reclaim your ability to handle tough moments. You’ll feel more in control, more like yourself, and less dependent on cannabis to feel okay.

Frequently Asked Questions

We work with most major insurance plans to make treatment accessible. Coverage varies by plan and your specific situation. The best way to confirm is to contact us to get personalized guidance. Our team can verify your benefits, explain what’s covered, and discuss any out-of-pocket costs before you start.

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs) are intensive day treatment for 6 clinical hours Monday-Friday. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) offer similar work but with fewer hours per week so you can keep work or family responsibilities. We recommend the PHP setting if you need more stability early on; The IOP works well once you’ve built momentum or have significant outside support.

Some components of our program can be delivered remotely, particularly individual therapy and certain group sessions. However, cannabis addiction treatment is most effective when you’re present for in-person groups, holistic activities like beach yoga, and our full team. We encourage you to contact us to discuss a hybrid approach tailored to your situation.

Holistic practices like yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and art therapy address the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. While therapy and medication target your thoughts and brain chemistry, holistic modalities help your nervous system regulate naturally, reduce cravings physically, and rebuild the mind-body connection cannabis addiction disrupts. Together, they create lasting recovery.

Yes. Many people struggling with cannabis addiction also experience depression, anxiety, trauma, gambling disorder, or other mental health challenges. We treat dual diagnoses and co-occurring disorders. Our team conducts a thorough assessment to identify everything affecting your recovery and addresses each one comprehensively. Call us to discuss your specific needs.

I just had an introduction to Beach Recovery's PHP and IOP programs. Finding specialized care for gambling and social media addiction is incredibly difficult, but this program addresses the complexities and behaviors of these addictions. They don't just focus on "stopping" the addiction; they teach you how to build a healthy relationship with technology and how to navigate addiction triggers in your life. If you or a loved one are struggling with digital dependence or gambling, or other forms of addiction, including substance use, check out Beach Recovery.

I came to the center for a severe gambling addiction because everything I had tried in the past never worked. I tried 12 step groups, support groups, therapy, managing it on my own and quitting cold turkey . After coming to Carlsbad Beach Recovery, I was introduced to new tools and very experienced therapists in the field of gambling and was able to identify why I did what I did, learn about the brain, childhood trauma, and process all of the underlying reasons why I was acting compulsively and addictively. Without that awareness, I might have never made it. I was literally at the end of my rope, and they saved my life. I highly recommend this program for anybody struggling with a gambling addiction because it’s a very unique addiction and requires very specialized treatment. I had quit gambling in the past, but the obsession and the desire never went away. I am now 65 days off gambling and I have zero desire to ever go back to that horrible dark lifestyle. I’m finally in a place where my desire to heal and feel better outweighs my desire to act out compulsively. Thank you so much to everybody who works here.

I recently visited this facility as a licensed clinical social worker with an addiction certification for networking as well as to scout out IOPs (intensive outpatient program) for any client of mine that needs a higher level of care than what I can provide at the outpatient level. They offer both PHP (6 hrs/day) and IOP (3 hrs/day) programs filled with psycho-educational groups with comprehensive trauma-informed psychotherapy, adventure and holistic activities, & case management services etc. I was more than impressed with the friendliness & energy of the staff, the aesthetic aspects of the facility, and would not hesitate to send any client or friend to Carlsbad Beach Recovery.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ FINALLY 🗣️ A Rehab That Actually Cares — Carlsbad Beach Recovery Is The Real Deal! My partner and I just finished our stay at Carlsbad Beach Recovery, and I’ve never experienced a place run with this much heart. Melody, Nima, Bobby, Cayden, Celine, and the whole team there are WORLD-CLASS human beings. They didn’t just “do their job” — they made us feel seen, supported, and genuinely cared for in a way I’ve never experienced in treatment. I was able to finally muster enough courage to publish my book and it happened here at CBR. I cannot scream praises high enough for this team. This is a new rehab outside the fast paced life of the city, but it’s not your standard OC/SD shuffle either — it already feels different. You can tell they’re building something sacred. Melody has the kind of leadership that makes people believe in themselves again, and the staff follows her with the same intentionality and compassion. They treat you like family from the moment you walk in the door. They also work with couples in a way that’s safe, structured, and honestly life-changing. Even when separated, you’re literally only a few steps away from your person, and that closeness meant the world to us. Just the group instructors there will challenge you to your core, and help you so much because they’re so well rounded, you just trust them. Every single human at this organization loves what they do and it shows in everything they do. I miss it already 🥹 Carlsbad Beach Recovery gave us hope, community, and a sense of belonging we desperately needed. I truly expect big things from this place as they grow, and I’m grateful to have been part of the beginning. If you’re looking for a place that’s pure, supportive, and built on real love and intention — this is it. — ML You guys rock. Never stop working for the addict that still suffers. Please. We needed you guys so bad. Thank you. P.S. just in one week they took me on the best outing I’ve ever been to at Dave and Busters, and then took it a step further and visited the most beautiful garden in California in Encinitas. Don’t walk. Run. You’re safe here. I wrote and published both of these books while in treatment here. You can do it too!
  • Marijuana use is legal in the State of California. According to the California Department of Public Health, 1 in 6 individuals seeking treatment at California’s publicly funded drug centers named marijuana as their primary problem drug.
  • According to SAMHSA’s 2024 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, about 1 in 4 Americans aged 12 and older used marijuana in the past year – that’s roughly 64.2 million people. More than 44 million used it in the past month alone.
  • A survey from UC San Diego reported that nearly 4 in 10 California adults used cannabis in the past three months. Among users, more than half consumed it daily, and 40% used it multiple times a day.
  • A study published in Pharmacotherapy shares that a combination of motivational enhancement therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and contingency management produces the best cannabis abstinence outcomes.
  • Findings from the Journal of Substance Use and Addiction Treatment indicate that before legalization, cannabis use disorder (CUD) accounted for 19% of substance use disorder (SUD) treatment admissions in California. After legalization, that dropped to 9%—suggesting fewer people sought treatment once cannabis became legal and more accessible.
