Jake Wetzel is a recovery professional and case manager with over a decade of experience in the substance use recovery field and twelve years of personal sobriety. He is currently completing his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in addiction, and will be pursuing advanced graduate training focused on addiction, trauma, and biopsychology. Jake’s work integrates professional training with lived recovery experience, allowing him to connect authentically with individuals navigating addiction, mental health challenges, and significant life transitions.
Jake’s approach blends psychological insight with a strong spiritual foundation, emphasizing self-awareness, personal responsibility, and meaning in the recovery process. In his work, he incorporates principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, person-centered therapy, and trauma-informed care, alongside current psychological research. He regularly facilitates relationship, self-awareness, and motivation-focused groups, helping clients explore patterns related to codependency, boundaries, emotional regulation, and personal values that often influence addiction and long-term recovery.
Jake has also participated in family interventions and Hospitals and Institutions (H&I) panels, sharing recovery support in institutional settings including Camp Pendleton’s brig. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys surfing, riding dirt bikes, and staying physically active, believing that a balanced life—physically, psychologically, and spiritually—supports long-term healing and sustainable recovery.
